I created a spreadsheet to optimize my workflow for my college assignments.
Helping me save time so as not to sift through my schools learning management system every time I need to work on an assignment.
I don't want to pull out my computer everytime I need to know what I have coming up.
Because motivation is important.
The first attempt was practical and functional. I enjoyed that I could customize my colors and see how many total assignments I had in a semester.
Looking back this needed a lot of improvement to look more aesthetically pleasing.
Again, the first attempt was practical and functional. However, that green progress bar with the other colors and the grid lines are jarring to the eye.
There was a Winter 2023 version but it was nearly the same with a slight color palette change.
This version was improved by the Google Sheets update of the "chips" instead of just the drop-downs I had previously, making it look much less boxy. I also adjusted the color palette and font and added more information to each assignment to make it clearer.
I still had yet to change the progress bar from the default colors.
This was the final form of my tracker as I had gotten to a point where I was satisfied with the functionality and the aesthetics of it.
I got rid of all gridlines to keep it clean. I also finally changed the colors of the progress bar to better align with my color pallet.
Overall, I really enjoyed creating something that met my academic goals while also pushing me to explore how Google Sheets can be elevated into a polished, corporate-style tool. It was a bonus to have classmates ask where I had purchased the template; though, of course, with today’s AI tools, anyone can now design a spreadsheet that’s just as refined and visually compelling.
